When working in Trifacta, you are designing the recipe based on a sample of the full dataset. By default, the generated samples are 10MB in size. In some cases, it would be beneficial to adjust the maximum size of samples to improve the performance of Trifacta in the browser.

You can now reduce the size of samples loaded in the browser for your current recipe to improve performance and address low-memory conditions.

This feature allows you to change the sample size that is returned to the browser, which can help speed up calculations and reduce the computational load on your machine. When this setting is reduced, the sample currently loaded in the browser is immediately reduced to the new maximum size. Other available samples for the recipe are resized when they are reloaded. This setting is saved per recipe. You can set different sample sizes for each recipe. Collaborators on the recipe will use the same setting.

Be aware that this sample size setting determines how much data is delivered to the browser, but the sampling algorithm is unaffected.

  • When this setting is reduced, the sample currently loaded in the browser is immediately reduced to the new maximum size. Other available samples for the recipe are resized when they are reloaded.

  • Trifacta administrators can increase the maximum size of the Trifacta Photon samples to more than 10MB, although this is not recommended. For more information, see Configure Application Limits.

  • This setting is saved per recipe. You can set different sample sizes for each recipe. Collaborators on the recipe will use the same setting.

Note: The Trifacta application provides a recommendation for the new sample size.

Steps

  1. On the Transformer page, click the name of the sample in the top menu.

The Sample Details dialog is displayed.

2. In the Sample Details dialog, click Edit.

3. Use the slider bar to change the maximum size of samples delivered to the browser for this recipe:

4. To apply your changes, click Save.

The current sample is immediately updated to reflect the new maximum sample size. The sizes of all subsequent samples that are delivered to the browser for this recipe are capped at this new maximum size. Samples are still generated at the preset size in backend storage.
